Grow Your Music Career: 5 Tips from a Producer
Music producers are always on the lookout for effective strategies to help artists grow and level up in the industry. Getting noticed is even more difficult in the modern music scene. Here are some tips to help you stand out:
Release Music Strategically
Release music consistently: If you have fewer than 250 followers on Spotify, focus on releasing one to two songs per month. As your follower count increases (250-650 followers), you can start dropping EPs. Be strategic with your post-release marketing, extending beyond the typical two-week new release window.
Don’t stress about your monthly listener count because the number can fluctuate. Instead, focus on growing your follower base. Loyal followers are more likely to stick with you through ups and downs and will help sustain your career long-term.
Build An Online Presence
Only put energy into around 1-3 social media sites and build on those platforms. If you’re going to work on multiple socials at once, tailor your content to the strengths of that specific platform. For example TikTok is good for short videos, while Instagram is better for sharing BTS photos, videos in the studio, and performance posters etc.
Content is everything. This is especially important if you don't want to run ads. As a general rule, create about 10 pieces of content for each song you release. This could be anything from music videos and behind-
the-scenes footage to social media posts and live performance clips. Content not only promotes your music but also builds your brand.
While consistency is key when building a brand on social media, you don't have to post every day.
One way to create content is to promote your work in industry blogs and articles, which will boost your credibility and improve your search engine visibility. This will help bring legitimacy to you as a brand. FYU-CHUR Recording Studio offers free features on our studio blog. Send us your new music and upcoming performance details to info@fyu-chur.com
Before running an ad, make sure your content is compelling and of high quality. Many marketing leaders give this advice to their clients before starting any ad campaigns.
Work with a Consistent Music Producer
Find a consistent producer if you haven't already. A producer helps create your unique sound and plays an important role in shaping your identity as an artist. Collaborating with a producer who understands your vision can set you apart in the music industry and maintain the quality and consistency of your releases.
This is one of FYU-CHUR's key strengths. He helps artists to bring their creative vision to life.
Producers play a crucial role in promoting songs. By collaborating, you're creating music and mutually boosting visibility by getting both your names out there.
Network and Collaborate with Other Artists
Collaboration is a game changer. If your name isn't well-established in the industry yet, don't charge for features. Instead, focus on building relationships and enhancing your visibility through strategic partnerships.
Network with artists in your community, at your level, and of the same drive. Grow together by helping each other out.
When reaching out to more experienced professionals, offer them something they need help with. This approach builds connections and creates opportunities for mutual success. If you're interested in collaborating with other artists, send us an email at info@fyu-chur.com and we'll spread the word.
Build relationships with playlist curators on social media. For example, give them out a shout out via Instagram. This can lead to your music being featured on influential playlists and increase your audience reach.
Know Who You Are as An Artist
Know what emotions your music evokes and what your personal brand is. Since user-generated playlists are based on emotions, effectively marketing your music to the right playlists and audiences becomes more important. Promote yourself with a logo or a phrase that will help you stand out.
Finally, while implementing these tips, make sure you prioritize your well-being. Before getting into the music scene, take the time to truly understand yourself. This self-awareness will guide you through challenges and help you stay grounded.
These tips come from a blend of FYU-CHUR's industry experience and advice from Cruzer Urameshi's Reddit post, available here.
